History
After Hour Care of
Kentuckiana, Inc. dba. Extra Hour Care was
established in January 2000 as a means to meet the
needs of patients during those hours of the evening,
weekends and holidays when their regular attending
physician is not available. The first office
opened in Jeffersontown, Kentucky on February 14,
2000 with the sponsorship of the Jeffersontown
Family Practice. This clinic now averages over
8,300 patient visits annually. In January 2006, EHC
opened its second office at Central Station in
conjunction with the University of Louisville,
School Of Medicine, Department of Family & Geriatric
Medicine.
Extra Hour Care is an extension to the services
already offered by a sponsoring primary care
organization. In Jeffersontown it is the
Jeffersontown Family Practice. The affiliation with
this practice ensures the Jeffersontown community
has over one hundred hours of health care coverage
per week. EHC is designed to be available when most
physicians are not in their office. Our goal is to
meet the needs of the 90% emergency room visits that
could be seen at an Extra Hour Care site. Service
is also prompt and the average wait times are
usually less than 30 minutes.
Physicians and Staff
EHC has board certified and /or board eligible primary
care physicians to address the patient’s needs.
These physicians can handle immediate care needs,
such as x-raying; wrapping sprains & strains;
splinting breaks and arranging for casting the
following morning. Also cuts can be sutured and
other illnesses diagnosed with on the spot testing.
Basic lab and x-ray services are on site. EHC has
arranged with a large group of specialists to refer
to should the visit precipitate the need for more
detailed care. Should the patient need immediate
transfer to an emergency room EHC will make
arrangements for transportation. |
